Need Vacation Ideas/Lousiville Area

Planning a trip to Kentucky, kids range from 13 to adult. We are thinking the Lousiville area, want to go the horse race track. We like outdoor stuff and also need best ideas for lodging - the cheaper the better. BUT I don%26#39;t want a tent! A cabin would be great as long as bedding is furnished, don%26#39;t have room for all that. What are the must sees?

Must/Should sees: Churchill Downs , Mammoth Cave (100 miles South of The Ville), Louisville Slugger Museum, Louisville Bats AAA baseball game

If you wanted to drive farther west, I%26#39;d recommend Mammoth Cave National Park; they have adorable little cottages and cabins there; lots of great hiking, canoeing on the Green River, biking, etc.

Visit the Kentucky State Park website to see the accomodations in any of our wonderful state parks: lodges or cabins.

Louisville is a BIG CITY, so you%26#39;ll have all the cultural amenities, but there%26#39;s also Otter Creek Park with cabins available. Except for Churchill Downs and the Derby Museum, you%26#39;ll have to drive to Lexington/Midway/Versailles for the horse stuff.

You might also enjoy staying overnight at Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill; a unique experience...

I highly recommend the Stephen Foster Story in Bardstown, it is so worth the drive! It%26#39;s an outdoor play in an ampitheater and it%26#39;s a tradition for the summer time around here!

Have fun!

Thank you so much - we were wanting to see an outdoor play!

My recommendations are:

Derby Museum at Churchill Downs:

Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum (right in downtown):

Falls of the Ohio. Fossil beds just on the other side of the river from downtown Louisville:

Hello everyone,

I too am planning a family vacation to Kentucky this summer and would like some feedback. I am considering the Barkley lake area. Thanks in advance.
