supermarket downtown

Are there any supermarkets in the downtown area?

What are the names of supermarkets in Louisville?

Is Pci-Pac a major chain? How about City View Market?

Need smoked turkey, bottled water and bananas.

Thanks

We had an excellent market, Market on Market, but alas it closed . They still have La Bodega on Market, you could give them a call. However, I was stuck once with a foot cast and no car and called ValuMarket at the Mid City Mall (Bardstown Road) and they delivered for a small fee. They have some excellent local produce and specialty items as well.

I live downtown and though I go to New Albany%26#39;s Meijer for my major grocery shopping, there%26#39;s a Kroger on 2nd Street. It%26#39;s a small Kroger and closes around 11pm, but it%26#39;s convenient. It does tend to be super-crowded and the lines can be very long. However, I like how close it is and it%26#39;s great when I run out of something and don%26#39;t necessarily want to go very far.

Thanks for your suggestion. Is the City View Market on Chestnut and 11th worth the trolley or bus ride? We%26#39;re at W. Jefferson and 3rd. which is closer?

That%26#39;s not in a good part of town . For that matter, the Kroger aforementioned isn%26#39;t exactly in a great are either, though if you take a cab it should be okay. But my question is why would you need to go to a grocery? Please take my advice and call ValuMarket. They have a website online and I suggest that you place an order which includes some of our locally produced items. Heck, email me at this name at aol dot com and I will gladly BRING you those items, ok?

Advice taken. Thanks for the offer. See what you mean.

Linda is right. Not sure where you are downtown, but if you are near the Galt or Hyatt etc., the cab ride to ValuMarket in the Highlands wouldn%26#39;t be but a couple bucks more. It%26#39;s where I do about half of my shopping.

A couple of blocks further than ValuMarket, you could ask the cabbie to take you to Burger%26#39;s Market on the corner of Grinstead %26amp; Ray (next to Collegiate school).

It%26#39;s small, family owned and run. Good butcher %26amp; cheese selection. Excellent produce. They have items that are difficult to find at the chain stores (like HP Sauce etc.) They also have a lot of heat %26amp; eat stuff that%26#39;s made on-site. ...And I hear Saturday %26amp; Wednesday are the fried chicken sandwich days. Although I%26#39;ve never tried them since they always sell out by the time we get there. Only open until 7pm.

Thanks all. You%26#39;ve been very helpful. In New York there are cabs on the streets and you just raise your arm and they stop if available. Probably in front of the Hyatt there are cabs, how do I get back from these outlying supermarkets? Have the cab wait, or call a cab company?

Are there any movie theatres downtown? Fandango gives a few art houses, but no regular movie theatres. Do we need to cab a ride to a movie theatre too?

Newyorker,

Here%26#39;s the number for my favorite cab driver. His name is Herman. My friends and I use him all the time. Tell him your a friend of the blonde girls on Dublin %26amp; Sherwood. 648-4364. Oh crap. I just noticed that his card says he%26#39;s not in service on Mon %26amp; Tue.

There is a movie theater in the same complex as ValuMarket. Baxter Ave. Theaters. It is on the backside of the mall.

ValuMarket is not really out-lying. It%26#39;s in the major restaurant/pub row area of Louisville. Baxter Ave/Bardstown Rd.

Although it%26#39;s possible that you could spot a cab on the road in front of ValuMarket. I%26#39;d either have the cab wait. Or have him come back at a certain time. Otherwise, Yellow Cab%26#39;s number is 636-5511. You should add it to your cell phone list.

There are a number of bars %26amp; casual restaurants within a block of ValuMarket. You could always get your things and tell them that you%26#39;re going to wait in one of those if there%26#39;s much of a wait time.

The BackDoor Bar - is in the same complex as ValuMarket. The bartenders will call you a cab.

The Highland Tap Room - is directly across the street.

Heinie Brother%26#39;s Coffee is across the street. Have someone point the way to you.

Ramsey%26#39;s Cafe - is also right across the street.

Kashmir Indian - is also across the street.

You should honestly just take a cab up and walk around and explore the area a bit before doing your grocery shopping. It%26#39;s a good walking area.

There is a Kroger downtown in a not-so-safe area, but you could probably get what you need there. I would recommened the valu market though.
