Last year I went to Derby and parked at the expo center and took the shuttle. This was a cheap way, and getting to the track was easy. However, getting back was chaos! It was very disorganized, took forever just to get on the bus, and several fights broke out. I%26#39;d like to avoid this option this year. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to park and when we should arrive?
Derby Parking
If you get there early and are willing to take the risk, there are people around the track who sacrifice their yards to park cars. Expect to pay about $25. Remember, they are not responsible for any damages.
Derby Parking
We generally park across Central Ave. and parking there was $75 just for Oaks Day. My brother generally goes earlier in the week and reserves a place. But there are cheaper options if you park a little further away. If you drive down Taylor Blvd. you will see a lot of people holding signs for parking places. They range in price usually getting more expensive the closer you get. As LLindaC mentiond, you should be able to get fairly close for $25 or $30.
The best experience we ever had was parking downtown (free in many spots, meters, etc.) and taking the TARC to Churchill Downs. It was cheap, quick, and the lines weren%26#39;t too long. We left after the 7th race and were back home within about an hour.
kyderbymom--if you left after the seventh race you missed ';the greatest two minutes in sports';........
Duh! We left two races after the Derby. I never remember how many races there are that day! I don%26#39;t go for the horses anyway! :)
That will be the last time TARC will be handling it. From now on, Miller Transportation will be supplying the busses and I%26#39;m sure there will be problems with the new service.
