Hotels for Derby

I just read an article in the Courier-Journal that, due to the economy, they are expecting vacancy rates as high as 20% over Derby weekend. So, if anyone was putting off a trip to Louisville for the Derby because they thought they wouldn%26#39;t be able to find lodging, don%26#39;t stop looking yet!

Hotels for Derby

I would think that some of the hotels towards the East End would be likely to have openings. Unfortunately, the only name I can think of is the Candlewood Suites. If you can search by address, try Blankenbaker Pkwy or Alliant Ave.

thank you for the tips :)

I%26#39;m finding some in that area but still with the inflated normal Derby prices. I was hoping they might come down a little if they had high vacancy this late in the game. I%26#39;m a student with limited funds, so I%26#39;ll probably just keep my Lexington reservations (I%26#39;m there for a conference anyway earlier in the week) and suck up the drives to and from Louisville for the Oaks and to come home Saturday morning from SDF!

We found a Hilton family hotel in Louisville - the Embassy Suites - that let us use hotel points. Apparently we are 15 minutes from Churchill Downs. I was shocked. The cost for the room was $650 and it let me use points!!! If you have points for any big chain, you may want to check it out.

That is terrific, and that hotel gets great reviews. One time we took a cruise on Super Bowl weekend (Miami) and while other cruisers couldn%26#39;t find rooms, we were able to use our Priority Club points for Holiday Inn. They do honor club members well!

I posted yesterday that we are staying at the Embassy Suites for hotel points and that the room was going for $650. I can guarantee that these hotels are not selling out as the price for the Embassy Suite just fell to $350 per night. Still too much, of course, but if it is dropping prices, others might be, as well. Keep going to the chains%26#39; websites: hilton.com; hyatt.com; marriott.com; holidayinn.com, etc. The closer it gets to Derby Day, the lower the price. I would sure be mad if I paid $650 and then found out others are paying $350.
