I have just recently begun to peruse the Louisville Forum and did see some familiar names from my favorite TA forum site-- Destin (and surrounding area such as Seagrove). I have stayed in Louisville only briefly as a half way stop between Destin and home. Now I look forward to exploring the city in more depth.
My husband and son will be arriving in Louisville for a a quick trip starting this Friday, May 15 and leaving the 18th. We will be staying downtown at the Hyatt. The main purpose of our visit at this time is to look at potential housing options for my son who will be entering grad school this fall at the University of Louisville. I am in need of a variety of recommendations and would welcome any input into appropriate neighborhoods to look into (the last posting of historic Louisville was interesting!)
I would also love any recommendations for breakfast places near the Hyatt and any options for dinner. As a Canadian who has undergone a very long winter, I would welcome the opportunity to dine outdoors at least for one night. Spring has been a long time coming! I would also love a recommendation for a restaurant that locals love to go to. We are very eclectic in our tastes and would like recommendations for perhaps one higher price dining option and some medium priced options.
If weather and time permit, I hope to explore some areas by bike and by foot (Riverwalk, Historic Old Louisville, the university, etc.). Are the traffic and terrain friendly to cyclists and pedestrians? Any thoughts/recommendations welcomed!
With Thanks, mommaDee
Several Questions re: an upcoming trip
Hello Momma Dee and welcome! My daughter is transferring to UofL this fall. I%26#39;m happy to have her back from St. Louis! I am a UofL grad as were my parents, so I hold a fond place for it in my heart.
The Old Louisville area around 3rd and 4th Streets is where many students rent apartments. There are also dorm options. Has he contacted student housing for help? Our local bus line TARC goes to campus along Eastern Parkway, where some students have apartments. In fact, many students love the Highlands and colorful Bardstown Road and bus to school.
There%26#39;s a really nice little place in Old Louisville, Third Avenue Cafe which is reasonable and very popular with locals.

You%26#39;ll like the vibe there! It%26#39;s closed on Sundays, though. My favorite restaurant also has a large patio for dining. It%26#39;s a GREAT place for people watching on lively Bardstown Road. Seviche:

Go to opentable and make a reservation. In the box where you can write to the maitre d%26#39;, request an outside table.

A great breakfast spot near the Hyatt is Toast on Market:

It%26#39;s a little hike from the Hyatt, but you can take the Trolley there.

You will have fun walking around Old Louisville with the magnificent trees and the old mansions. Big wide sidewalks, no problem walking for miles! Do, however, download a map or two and familiarize yourself with certain points of interest.

I hope you have a wonderful time in our pretty city. The weather has been beautiful, fingers crossed it will stay that way for you!!
Several Questions re: an upcoming trip
Oh, I thought of another nice place with patio dining...Land N Wine Bistro. One of our favorites. It%26#39;s essential that you call them to reserve a table on the patio!

Thank you for all the fabulous information LLindaC! Your suggestions will surely enhance our stay in Louisville. The idea of dining on an outdoor patio is enticing-- haven%26#39;t been able to eat outside at home as of yet. I%26#39;ll download some maps and make some reservations-- the men are cooking dinner tonight!
