Best route from Houston (TX) to Louisville (KY)

Half of April we are planning to visit some friends in Houston and afterwards drive to family in Louisville, Kentucky (in perhaps 3 or 4 days).

We would like to get some advice about our driving route from Houston to Louisville.

We already did some “research” and thought to drive from Houston to Shreveport (Louisiana) (please let us know if there is an alternative route). Next we are thinking about following the Mississippi on the scenic route along the river up to Memphis. We would like to continue to Louisville either through Nashville or follow a more scenic route along the Mississippi and Ohio river to Louisville. We would definitely appreciate all advice. When driving from Arizona to Louisville (which I did often) I found the best route to be the southern route through Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.

Weather was better and traffic was better.

We decided to take the Natchez route. We have plenty of time so we can really enjoy it.
