Favorite Restaurant/any Nightlife

We will be in Bowling Green for 2 days.

What are the best restaurants to try (not chain restaurants) that a local would go to for a fun evening out?

Is there any nightlife in Bowling Green?

Favorite Restaurant/any Nightlife

Bowling Green LOVES chains and Mexican restaurants. However, here are a couple of the nicer places I like to go when I head back home.

440 Main: On the square downtown, about as upscale as BG gets. Pretty wide selection of steaks, seafood with some creativity thrown in. The place has a pretty good bar crowd on the weekends that is laid back but fun.

Mariah%26#39;s: Historic restaurant in an old building downtown (around the corner from 440) that was damaged by fire years ago. They did a great job of renovating after the fire, perhaps the most well known restaurant in BG. They have a nice bar as well.

I wish I could write about more places, but there simply aren%26#39;t many. There use to be a couple bars down on the square that were fun, but I%26#39;m not sure if they are even there anymore. Bars in Bowling Green never seem to stay open for more than a couple years. I don%26#39;t know why.

Thanks.....

FYI, I%26#39;ve heard good things about Mandolin and the Brickyard too. Both are downtown, but I haven%26#39;t eaten at them.

try mandolin, its very nice. brickyard is nice, but the food choices are limited. mariahs also good and very popular. my personal favorite is Puerta Vallarta for good mexican. not much nightlife in bowling green, a couple places near downtown. you are better off going to the movies or having a late dinner.

Thanks....great tips for the restaurants.

Also confirmed my thoughts about the evening.

We%26#39;ll plan on a later dinner!

If you are still looking.....

I live in Charleston, SC but grew up in BG and my parents still live there. When I come home I always have to go to Rafferty%26#39;s. It is located on Scottsville Road across from the airport. They really are great - similar to a ';chain'; like Ruby Tuesday%26#39;s, etc.. but the smells that come out of the restaurant are unlike anything I%26#39;ve experienced elsewhere. They have great barbeque, salds, club sandwhiches, chicken, steaks, etc...

I haven%26#39;t got to go yet, but my family tells me that EVOO (I think it%26#39;s called...stands for Extra Virgin Olive Oil) located downtown, is just out of this world.

I think there is also an ';Iron Skillet'; that is on Scottsville Rd. that is supposed to be a really nice place - costly - but really really good.

Hope this helps!

I always enjoyed eating in BG when I went to college there. Montana Grill (which is located on Scottsville Road close to the University Plaza Hotel) is very good...I love their Thai Chicken. I give another vote for Mariah%26#39;s and also to Brickyard Cafe. For lunch and lighter fare, Bread and Bagel%26#39;s has great homemade bagels, breads, pizzas, and wonderful sandwiches. As for night life, nothing beats the margaritas at Puerto%26#39;s! After a pitcher of those you won%26#39;t care where you go!

Bread and Bagel is the best!

Yummy food and great atmosphere!

440 main restaurant and bar is simply the BEST in Bowlong Green, It has a great bar crowd on the ';grill'; side and is fine dining, white tablecloths and black linens on the tables, great seafood, steaks and pastas, live band on friday and Saturday nightsin bar area and classical guitarist in the dining room on Wednesday nights!!! All over WONDERFUL experience!!! Highly recomended!

Check out Bread and Bagels, 871 Broadway Ave. They have pasteries, bagels, coffee, excellent pizza, pasta, sanwiches, and beer. Also, their myspace page lists upcomming bands/poetry readings. If you really want to experience BG culture, then do not pass up a stop at Bread and Bagels. Strangely enough, some of the bands playing at Bread and Bagels range from Portalnd OR, Austin TX, Brooklyn NY, ect. mixed in with the local guys and gals. The atmosphere is more family friendly than bars, but not as low key and stuffy as 440 Main.
