what to do for a girlfriends weekend

We will be in Lexington for a girlfriends 50th birthday celebratory weekend in April. We have a great place to stay and plan to go to Keeneland on Friday. I would love some suggestions for things to do on Saturday. I know visiting the Horse Park is an idea, but I think some of us may want to explore shopping or walking around cool areas of Lexington, and finding a fantastic place to have lunch. What do you recommend?

The Greentree Close on Short Street could be a good idea. You can have lunch / tea and shop their unique gifts. It is downtown and there are quite a few interesting places to browse through.

Short drive over to Midway, Kentucky. Utterly charming...cute shops, great restaurants. Great girlfriends stopover. Nice spa in Midway also, VS Salon and Spa. You would drive through some really scenic areas to get there. Worth the drive.

What is the restaurant scene? We are foodies and like to try independently owned places that use local, fresh ingredients. Suggestions?

If you go to Midway, you have quite a few options along the main street. There is Black Tulip and Heirloom that are very good. Also in Midway is Holly Hill Inn. It is off the main drag, but well worth the extra couple of minutes.

I agree with the above, love food myself! You must go to the Holly Hill Inn! Walking aorund midway is also nice. If you are looking for a casual and fun place to go for dinner, more of a bar scene, try Saul Good Pub (local place.) They are one of my favorites with girlfiends for a night out, fun drinks, good food, shareable desserts and always a fun atmosphere. Also, Wines On Vine on Old Vine street has free wine tastings on Sat evening and has a fun crowd and is a good way to start a night out. Hope you have a blast!! If you let us know where you are staying I may be able to give you things close to your hotel.
