As per a disccusion in a other forum I would like to stress somthing about mammoth cave national park. If you go PLEASE experience the unique habitat above the surface. There is plenty of hiking there adn renting a canoe to go down the green river is amazing. This park has many hidden gems you wouldnt plan on when coming that dont involve just the cave tours. The cave is amazing but so is the surface area of the park.
more than a cave
Excellent point chasm4u! There are even some excellent handicap accessible trails in the park. Your idea of a canoe trip down the Green River gives me an excuse to want go back.
more than a cave
I went on a canoe trip down the Green River through the park. We used the canoe place just outside the park boundaries on East Boundary Road.
The truck ride to the Dennison Ferry put in site was an experience in itself. There%26#39;s some rough terrain out there!
On the river you get to see where the green enters the cave. Pretty cool.
Another option for canoe trips is to come down the Nolin River just below the dam. The rock formations are absolutely incredible, and there is even a natural lake where one can stop. This trip is only possible when the water conditions are right, as you have to go upstream when arriving at the Green River. The outfitters are good about saying when it can or cannot be made.
