hi there
I am considering visiting Paducah for the Quilt Show in 2007. Could anyone please give me any tips, ie best place to stay etc?
Many thanks.
Paducah Quilting Show
I went a couple of years ago. The worst part is trying to find a place to stay. Be sure to go to the Eleanor Burns show, it is absolutely wonderful and she is there to sign books. There is a vendor area at the mall, which is excellent. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions. cherimt@prodigy.net
Paducah Quilting Show
Hi...
I have recently opened a Lodge in Suwanee (Kuttawa) KY (March 2006). Some of my first guests were Quilters for the Quilt Show. I have a picture of a few of them (one was from England and her son from Scottland)on my website. There are some pictures of my rooms on my website www.poplarcreeklodge.com as well. Please feel free to contact me, I know that it is hard to find accomodations and that the rates soar for the period during the week of the Quilt Show. I actually give a discount for the Quilters. I am small and try to make my guests feel like they are at home here.
I only wish I had the time to experience the show as well.
Good luck and take care.
Katie
I just visited Paducah and am an avid quilter. Wanted particularly to spend copious amounts of time in Hancock Fabrics. I was very disappointed because of the prices - same as fabric shops out West. But a very pleasant surprise was the new Eleanor Burns fabric shop just opened downtown on Fourth Ave, very near the Museum. (Here prices are $4-5/yd in July, 2007). Another nice, smaller shop was the Quilters%26#39; Alley within walking distance.
For motels I would recommend something downtown to explore quilting and historic area. We stayed at Days Inn next to Hancock. There a gazillion restaurants and motels on Hinkleville Road, even a Wal-Mart. Two full days are recommended to experience quilting opportunities. I had fun!
The lodge (or cabins) at Ky Dam Village State Park would just be about 30 minutes away, and a great place to get away from the crowds. I%26#39;d just advise reserving FAR in advance.
A lot depends on how close to Paducah you want to be and how much you want to spend on lodging. Most hotels are out by the Mall and Hancocks area. Today%26#39;s Paducah Sun newspaper had an article on the new motels newly open and breaking ground out in that area. It%26#39;s called Coleman Crossing and is near Hancocks. Mida Hospitality is developing Candlewood Suites to be open by spring 08. The Residence Inn by Marriott opened this past week and the Paducah Hampton Inn %26amp; Suites opened spring 07.
If you don%26#39;t mind driving in there is lodging in neighboring counties and in the lakes area. Book early!!
It can be difficult to find lodging. Kentucky Lake is only 30 minutes away. Consider renting a vacation house on the lake for 3 or 4 days. It is reasonable for a group of 6 to 8 people. Check our Talloaksbay.com
